Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

January 14, 2024 - Sorry it’s been awhile since we did the Kauai update. It is not necessarily due to being overly busy on sea days, but definitely lots of time for relaxation.

We had a wonderful day in Honolulu. We docked early in the morning as the sun was rising over the skyline. We got off the ship as soon as we could and walked 40 minutes to the Target to get a couple of last minute items in our last USA port. Once we got back to the ship, we parted ways for the day.

Ann Marie: I took the shuttle bus to downtown Waikiki. As per usual, the shuttle stop was in the heart of the shopping area, but I immediately walked 4-5 blocks to Waikiki Beach. I spent a wonderful afternoon relaxing on the beach and swimming in the beautiful water. It was a Sunday, so I think it was even more crowded than usual. Chair set-ups were right next to each other - not much personal space. But it was lovely. The water was the perfect temperature and crystal clear. Once a few feet off the sandy beach, the floor of the ocean became more rocky than sandy, which made things a bit more difficult. But it was great to swim and to watch all the surfers and paddle boarders.

Cathy: After shopping I met up with Farrah, one of our Dominican Associates from Blauvelt, NY, who now lives in Honolulu. We walked, talked and had a great lunch together, it was a wonderful afternoon spent getting to know each other better. Both Ann Marie and I had an opportunity in 2005 to take our Mom to Hawaii, and we did all our sightseeing then, so it was a great opportunity for beach time for Ann Marie and meeting up with a friend for me!

We sailed out just as the sun was setting. It was spectacular. There were whales breaching on the starboard side, just as we were sailing out. We didn’t get to see it, but a fellow traveler (Karla) who has been taking some amazing pictures (and is part of the nightly trivia team we’re on), shared some of her wildlife photos. See the next blog entry.
