Revised Itinerary

February 24, 2024 - We knew it was coming, and today was the day Viking officially announced that the itinerary for the World Cruise was being revised as safely traveling the Suez Canal and Red Sea is not viable at this time. And so, we will now be going around Africa en-route to our final destination in London. Beginning March 18th, there are revisions to shorten our time in Sri Lanka and only have one stop in India (Cochin) before heading south. So we will miss parts of India and all the stops in the Middle East & Mediterranean including Jordan, Egypt, Greece, Turkey Italy and Monaco. We will still get to Spain, but not Barcelona and we will spend some extra time in Portugal before finishing the trip with France and England. We were given the option to end in Singapore and fly home, or to continue on with this revised itinerary that includes stops in Mauritius, Reunion, South Africa (Richards Bay, Port Elizabeth & Cape Town), Namibia, Senegal and Morocco (Agar, Casablanca and Tangier). This will mean more days at sea which is certainly not ideal.

As we have said throughout this adventure, we will go wherever we are meant to go. And so, unless the excursions in these ports — which we should learn about in a week or so - are really disappointing, we are going for it. Not sure when/if we would have planned a trip to Africa, so maybe this was meant to be. And it will be much easier to plan another trip in a year or so to see those areas of the Mediterranean that we are missing. So, Africa, here we come!
