Whitsunday Island, Australia

February 20, 2024 - So Whitsunday Island was another tender port and that made us nervous that we would miss this as well, given recent experiences. For this port, the included excursion was a ferry ride around the Whitsunday, which is a series of islands - some inhabited but most not. And the good news was the ferry boats came right up along side our ship where we were anchored, so we didn’t have to take a tender to a pier in order to transfer to the boat. The weather was perfect and the scenery was incredible. There were beautiful sand beaches along the coastline of the uninhabited islands. And there were some narrow passages, where the water was shallow and you could see the coral along the coast. The guide told us to keep an eye out for sea turtles and dugongs (Australian Manatees). While we didn’t see any wildlife, the trip was great. As with many of our adventures, the pictures really don’t do it justice. And, at some point, we just stop taking pictures and take it all in!
