Cozumel, Mexico

Yesterday, Friday 12/22, we were on the Island of Cozumel. We learned about the Mayan culture from our local tour guide and attended a Mayan ritual dance. The beating of the drums was loud, but the costumes and their skill in moving around while holding sticks and fire was amazing. We then visited the main Plaza where there were all kinds of shops, mostly geared to tourists. Tourism makes up 90 percent of their industry since it was discovered that they have the second largest barrier reef in the world. We also learned how missionaries came from Spain and worked together with the Mayan people and accepted each others culture.

As we left the Island of Cozumel we had a beautiful Sunset., as we began two days at sea enroute to Columbia.
