Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Saturday, January 20, 2024 - A more apt name for us was Poura Poura as it was a very wet day. It is the rainy season for this area, so it is to be expected. We did still get some sense of the beauty of this island as we initially sailed in, some of the mountains and seaside were visible. Our tour, a scenic boat ride around the island, was scheduled for 3:30. We opted to get off the ship, via the tender boats at 12:30 (an hour after arrival) to walk around and explore on our own. Despite wearing our “quick drying” clothes, and wearing hats and raincoats, we got completely drenched. after venturing just a few blocks in each direction off the pier. There was one grocery store, one pharmacy, about 5 T-shirt shops and 12 “Thaitian Pearl” shops that were open. Many other store were closed. We had thought we would duck into a cafe for tea, but didn’t find anything. We made it back to the Pier at 2:30 and opted to just return to the ship, forgoing our tour, as the visibility was such that we didn’t expect we would see much. And we were soaked. Back on the ship it did clear up at bit by 3:30, but we still think we made the right choice, We got out of our wet clothes and put on bathing suits and used the pool. Again, no complaints, we are enjoying every experience.
